Almost half of Americans (47 percent) say they are more likely to buy life insurance using simplified underwriting, which generally means getting coverage more quickly and without a medical exam*, versus traditional underwriting approaches, according to new findings from the 2019 Insurance Barometer Study.

Americans wrongly believe that life insurance is better suited for someone who leads an independent, risky and adventurous life, than for a working father who earns the primary source of income for his family, according to a recent survey from Life Happens, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping educating consumers about the importance of life insurance.

To educate Americans about the importance of life insurance, the nonprofit Life Happens will once again bring the insurance industry together this September for Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM). To help the industry plan for the annual campaign, Life Happens today announced its new campaign resources and marketing materials.

A new report, “Hispanic Americans: Life Insurance Ownership and Attitudes,” shows that while 6 in 10 Hispanic Americans do not have life insurance, more than half (51%) say they have a need. This includes those with no coverage (40%) and those who do have life insurance but say they need more (11%). Together these represent 22 million Hispanic Americans living with a life insurance coverage gap.

Younger Americans, including “millennials” age 25-34, show the highest level of concern across all generations for common financial planning issues, including saving for retirement, paying for a child’s education, and burdening others with final expenses. The 2014 Insurance Barometer Study, released today by nonprofit Life Happens (formerly the LIFE Foundation) and LIMRA, found that while sentiment has improved slightly among the overall U.S. population, younger consumers are noticeably more anxious about their financial plans, despite being best suited to take actions now that can make a difference.
